Lullaby of distress

1

Some people are incapable of being happy. You give them everything, riches, love, prosperity, recognition, and yet, yet, they are not contempt. They will fight all the battles outside, and triumph in each and every one, but still can't win the silly battle inside their mind.

2

Mind is a curious place. It says it wants something, and convinces, like the piper leading the rats, that your goal is your ultimate destination. It gives false promises to compel you to throw away everything and reach that goal. It gives you fake promises about the life after. After you reach the goal, what then? The mind takes a moment and recalibrates. It has found a new bait. You must attain the bait. There is no limit to success.

3

You are not fighting everyone for success. You are not fighting for recognition. You are not fighting for glory and riches beyond comprehension. You are fighting boredom. Your mind must make you get up every day to fight imaginary battles so you don't die of boredom. See, humans aren't made for life in a closed-off apartment. It wants to see, explore, feel, and lead a life full of thrills. How can your unevolved mind fight the inauspicious malaise of your 100 sqft bedroom? It can't. So it needs to make up stories. It needs role models, those who have fought this boredom and got some success. Your mind craves those idols and becomes a dogmatic worshipper. You must be him.

4

But what do you know about that person? What do we know about anybody? We modern humans make a facade of our existence. We never reveal our true selves outside. We have several alter egos. And our interactions are served by the ego that is best suited for the moment. Everything is just a big fat lie. Every talk is a facade. Facade of fake humans engaging in fake little conversations. The person complimenting you is burning inside, "Oh god, I am so much better, why not me?" You accept the compliment and give him fake advice, on how to be you. Of course, you don't want him ever to challenge your position, all selfless acts come at a cost.

5

Being selfish is the way of life. You are in a battle for existence. You don't have time to help a poor soul who needs it, those are for the weak. The only thing you must do is exploit. Be friends with those who are beneficial. Cut those off who add no value to life. Aristotle was stupid. There is no such thing as a friendship based on goodness.
