Strange place, this universe. Look around you. What do you see? Just collections of atoms, stardust. From the sugar in your coffee to the stars of the night sky, everything is just a mindless collection of particles, breaking and bonding with the sole purpose of following the law of entropy.
Nothing in this universe is for you. Nothing in this universe exists to serve you. Even atoms inside you don't necessarily "serve" you. They made a bargain with each other to withstand the test of time. (You carry genes that compel you to survive and propagate. Genes are, in fact, mindless collections of atoms).
Not enough existential crisis? Just look at a melody-sheep video. You are floating in a grain of dust, which is so unfathomably tiny that it can't be compared even to that dust. You float around an average star, located at an ordinary place in an ordinary galaxy. Your own galaxy holds billions of stars and there are billions of galaxies. Hell, this is the stuff that you can see. Research says that there is more stuff you can't see than you can. But you will spend your entire life, here, on this tiny spec of dust, never being able to fully grasp the true size of the universe. All your emotions, anger, happiness, and sorrows serve no meaning in the grand scheme of things. Life is meaningless.
Is it though? You are made up of the same stuff as the chair you are sitting on or the desk in front of you. Yet, there are things curiously different between you two. You can feel the air, talk to your loved one about how beautiful the weather is today, and then sing a song about it. But sadly, the chair cannot. You are a collection of atoms that surprisingly, can read these things that I have written, and "feel" uneasy. The atoms around you may not be unique or special. Even the individual atoms inside you are not special. But the collection of them is. They are a way for the universe to know itself, to feel itself, and to write songs and poems about itself! We are lucky to inherit the very special collection of atoms that makes you "you" not something else. Isn't this amazing?
The next time you feel the calm breeze of spring around your neck, look around you, and think how lucky you are! You can feel it. You can think! You can express your feelings to others! You can be happy! You can be sad! Some of your fellow collections of atoms are not as privileged as you. Nothing in this universe can ever triumph over the privilege of living.
Perhaps that is why everyone has that excessive feeling of happiness just before death. It is at that last moment, the body finally realizes how lucky it was and gives a final goodbye to the atoms inside, thank you for blessing me with "Life".
