When humans finally start to venture into space, they will face a hurdle that is greater than any faced before. How can humans communicate with each other over great distances? Our best methods of communication relies on electromagnetic waves which can travel at the speed of light(The cosmic speed limit). This is very effective for short distance as light travels at incredible speed. But over long distances there are big limitations.
Light takes 30 minutes to travel from Mars to Earth. So there will always be a 30 minute communication delay from earth and mars. If an astronaut is stranded somehow on mars, it will take 1 hour(30 minutes back and forth)to get any response from earth. With increasing distance, communication delay increases significantly. Our nearest star is 4.2 light years away from us. So if humans travel there in distant future, good luck communicating with earth.
But there maybe a way through this hurdle, using a technology still undeciphered by the brightest minds. Quantum entanglement works on previously entangled subatomic particles which are somehow seperated. Because of weird spooky action at a distance, this particles can somehow 'communicate' with its entangled partner instantenously over any distance. If you take entangled particles to opposite ends of the universe and change the state of one, the state of the other particle will change to complement the state of first particle instantly, without any delay!
This property I think is the future. If the circuit board under our keyboard contain entangled particles, clicking a key can send a message instantly hundreds of light years away. By using entangled particles in cameras, we can share live video with people living on another galaxy!
Just think of all the things to come!
